Medford Parks & Recreation Department, Santo Community Center at 701 N. Columbus Ave., offers summer camps from June 13-Sept. 2, with weekly sessions that run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Santo center. Cost is $79 per camper per week, and partial scholarships are available. For $59 weekly, parents also can choose a camp running Tuesdays through Thursdays. Also, parents can “extend” camp hours to 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for an extra $10 weekly. Camps are open to kids 4-12 and include activities such as crafts, sports and games. Kids swim at nearby Jackson Pool, and special events or outings are planned on Fridays. The parks department also has a Leaders in Training program that allows kids 13-15 to learn the basics of being a camp counselor. Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts, P.O. Box 1359, will offer its annual Magic of Theatre summer camps in sessions June 20-25 June 20- July 15, July 5- Aug 12 and July 25 - Aug 19. Participants in the camps at St. Mary's School, 816 Black Oak Drive, Medford, learn performing arts during camp sessions and in performances at the end of each session. Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford, offers summer camps from June 14-Aug. 19, with weekly sessions that run from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays through Fridays. Kids 7 to 13 years old can attend the sessions that focus on hands-on exploration of art, art mediums and techniques at the nonprofit community arts center. Rogue Valley Family YMCA, 522 W. Sixth St., Medford, offers day camps from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays June 13 to Sept. 2 for youth entering 1st through 6th grade, with participants divided into two age groups and mock “cabins” to provide individual attention to each camper. This year's cay camp will be offered at Wilson Elementary School. Cost is $125 per week or $25 per day, $105 per week with Reduced Lunch letter, $85 per week with a Free Lunch letter and on an individual basis. It is the YMCA's goal that no one be turned away for an inability to pay. Campers take part in one or two weekly field trips plus Friday swim days, nature activities, arts and crafts, skits, songs, scavenger hunts, cooking and sports. Missoula Children's Theater The Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater hosts the Missoula Children's Theater's traveling children's theater workshops, the week of July 11. Children who audition and are selected for a role in its end-of-the-week production attend theater sessions all week. Auditions for this year's production, “The Secret Garden,” are at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 11. Auditions are free and open to children entering 1st through 12th grades in the fall. If selected for the production, the registration fee is $25 for the full week. Performers will attend sessions at various times Tuesday-Friday at the Craterian, 23 S. Kids Unlimited of Oregon, 821 N. Riverside Ave., Medford, offers day camps at four locations for kids entering first through eighth grades in weekly sessions June 21-Aug. 13.
Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays, and kids take part in science, sports, film/moving making, photography, ceramics, cooking, gardening, fitness activities, computer programming, dance, swimming, arts and crafts, outdoor education and field trips. Groups are organized into four age groups, with first- and second-graders at Jackson Elementary, 630 W. Jackson St; third- and fourth-graders at Howard Elementary, 286 Mace Road; fifth- and sixth-graders at Jefferson Elementary, 333 Holmes Ave., and the oldest kids at VIBES/Main 1, 821 N. Roller Odyssey, 2425 S. Pacific Highway, Medford, offers day camps for children in weekly sessions June 13-Sept. 2. The camps, for children 5-12, run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily and include games, skating and movies. The cost is $25 per day or $95 per week in advance or $100 weekly at the start of camp. Brain Fit Kids, 106 N. Central Ave., Medford, led by Charles and Conceição Solis, directors of the REACH Family Institute and internationally recognized specialists in child brain development with more than 35 years of experience working with children of all levels of
ability throughout the world. Children will engage in arts and crafts activities and explore lots of other exhibits at Kid-Time chosen for their beneficial effect on sensory and motor development. Ashland, the camp features coaching staff that includes 3 state “Coach of the Year”, 30 hours of contact, an eight to one camper to coach ratio, mental aspects of the game and top player demonstrations for campers. ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland, offers a series of weekly science- and art-themed camps for kids 4-12 June 14-Aug. 20. Camps focus on different themes each week, from astronomy to geology to theater, and campers are divided by age group. Camps for kids 4-6 run from 9 a.m. to noon, and older kids can sign up for morning sessions, afternoon sessions or a combination that also includes a supervised lunch and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for most sessions is $125 for non-members, $112 for members. Earth Kamp for Kids, offered through the Ashland parks department at North Mountain Park Nature Center, 620 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland, is from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23 for kids 8-12. The registration deadline is June 15. Cost is $60, and activities include creating crafts using natural and recycled materials, harvesting and preparing snacks using edible plants from the gardens and natural areas, and harnessing the sun's energy to bake cookies after building a solar oven. Ashland Family YMCA, 540 YMCA Way, Ashland, offers a variety of summer camps for area children, including weekly all-day camps based on themes and part-day sports camps. The daylong camps run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays all summer and cost $110 for Y members, $140 for others per session. They are open to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. The Y also offers preschool camps for kids 3-5 from 9 a.m. to noon June 28-July 2; July 5-9; July 12-16; July 19-23; Aug. 9-13; Aug. 16-20; Aug. 23-27; and Aug. 30-Sept. 3. They cost $75 for Y members, $90 for others weekly. The half-day sports camps run from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. and focus on gymnastics, swimming, tumbling, cheerleading, soccer, baseball, water play, basketball, volleyball, flag football, archery and fencing and dodgeball. They cost $75 per session for Y members, $90 for others. The Y also offers other specialty camps, including a weeklong resident camp for kids entering grades 3 through 8, an overnight fishing camp for kids entering grades 4 through 8, an overnight paintball camp for 10- through 15-year-olds; and a water polo camp for kids entering grades 4 through 9. Camp Gesher Jewish summer day camp is offered by Havurah Shir Hadash and Temple Emek Shalom from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 to 12 at the Havurah at 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. The camp is for kids entering kindergarten through seventh grade and includes arts and crafts, sports, music, drama, field trips and more. It integrates Jewish values, themes and practice into all activities from eating lunch and playing games to arts and crafts. The theme this year is, "Generations: From Abraham to Bubbe, Our Family Tree".
The week culminates in a family Shabbat experience at Temple Emek Shalom on Friday evening. Parents will have an opportunity to celebrate Shabbat in community and enjoy a taste of what the kids experienced at camp. Cost is $200 per child. Camp Gan Isreal 804 Hillview Drive, Ashland. Camp is held at Garden Way Park. Camp includes Hebrew songs, crafts, story hour, mad science, swimming, challah baking, sports, music, drama, field trips and more. The theme this year is, "Jewish Heroes". Flying L Ranch Ashland's Summer Horse Camp offers a summer of weekly day camps that teach kids to ride and care for horses. June 13-17 June 20-24 June 27 - July 1, July 5-8, July 11-15, July 18-22, July 26-30, and all through Aug., ending Aug 26. Based on CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) instruction, each session includes mounted lessons, lectures on horsemanship theory and safety, horse related crafts and activities, as well as an introduction to the wholesome ranch life. Dancing People Company offers children's workshops featuring modern dance, hip hop and aerial dance at 310 Oak St., No. 5, Ashland. Sessions are from 1 to 4 p.m. June 28-July 2 (for kids 12-14), July 26-30 (for kids 8-12) and Aug. 30-Sept. 3 (for kids 14 and older). Teachers from Willow Wind Community Learning Center, 1497 E. Main St., Ashland, will offer day camps at the school exploring continents, and a woodworker will offer woodworking camps at the school. The continent camps, which include art, language, games, garden exploration and more, are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 28 to July 2 and July 5 to 9 and are for 5- to 10-year-olds. The cost is $135 per session. The woodworking camps are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 5-9, July 12-16 and July 19-23 and are for 5- to 14-year-olds. Ashland Children's Theatre offers a series of summer children's theater camps at 905 Skylark Place, Ashland. “Make Believe Explorers,” a session for kids 4 to 6 that includes makeup, puppets and stories to act out, is from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. July 18-22 . The fee is $60 per session. “Imagination Travelers,” a camp for kids 6 to 8 that includes theater exercises, improvisational games, puppets and poems, is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 18-22 and costs $160. “TeenProv,” a camp for ages 12-17 in which teens will learn improvisational games and skills, is from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 27-July 1 and costs $100. “Children's Mystery Theatre,” a film noir production camp for actors 12 to 17 that culminates in two public performances, is from 12:30-4:30 p.m. July 25-Aug.5. Urban Naturalist: Nature Immersion Day Camp North Mountain Park Nature Center, 620 N Mountain Ave. Aug. 29 through Sept 1, from 9 a.m. till noon participants will gain hands-on opportunities for learning the wonders of nature through quiet observation and active exploration. Naturalist subject areas to be addressed: survival necessities (shelter, fire, water, food); local wildlife/plant studies; environmental ethics and awareness through games/crafts. Jefferson Nature Center, Klamath Bird Observatory and North Mountain Park in Ashland will offer a nature writing summer camp June 28-July 1 at Jefferson Nature Center in the Medford sports park at 2931 S. Pacific Highway. The camp for 8- to 12-year-olds will include games, natural history lessons, storytelling and independent writing exercises aimed at teaching kids about the environment, their creativing and language and writing. Kids' Art Camp at Ashland Methodist Church: Ashland's First United Methodist Church will offer “Hands Heart and Art: A Spiritual Day Camp” the week of July 18 - 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. Filled with arts, crafts, games, healthy snacks and fun, the camp is open to children who have completed grades K – 5. Art work created will be displayed at the church's Gradient Gallery. Rogue Valley Farm to School offers four one-week sessions at Rogue Valley Brambles, a farm at 6764 Tarry Lane, Talent, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Ages 6-8: July 11 to 15 and Aug. 15-19 and ages 9-12 June 20-24 and Aug 1-5. The camp offers activities for kids 7 to 10 including planting, harvesting, cooking, eating, caring for animals and craft projects. Boys & Girls Clubs Talent and Phoenix branches are offering a wide range of programs including: sports, fitness and recreation, art, healthy habits, character and leadership development, and education and career development. Participants take daily and weekly local trips to parks, bowling alleys, Science Works, Immigrant Lake, the Rrrink, Roller Odyssey, Rogue Rock Gym and more. Kids of the Kingdom Preschool, 525 Bigham Knoll, Jacksonville, offers weekly summer camp sessions June 6 to Aug. 26, with weekly themes including dinosaurs, pirates, cooking and more. No camp is planned the week of July 5 to 9 or 26-30. The sessions are open for kids 3-5 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. daily and for kids 6-8 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. daily. Britt Festival's Summer Rock Camp The Britt Festivals first annual Summer Rock Camp will be offered July 18-22 from 10a.m. to 4p.m. Rock Camp is geared towards regional musicians, ages 13-17 with at least an intermediate skill level on guitar, bass, drums, or keyboards. Campers will get hands on instruction on their instrument by professional musicians, as well as instruction in song writing, recording techniques, using sound systems, band dynamics, and a wealth of other information. The Rock Camp staff is comprised of some of musicians from the west coast and collectively has decades of national and international touring, recording and instructional experience. The Girl Scouts, P.O. Box 13238, Salem, offer single-day, three-day or week-long resident camp sessions at Camp Low Echo in the Southern Oregon Cascades Aug. 4-22. Campers entering kindergarten through ninth grade in the fall can enroll in sessions featuring swimming, canoeing, hiking, outdoor skills, archery, astronomy, crafts and other activities. Central Point's parks department, 140 S. Third St., Central Point, offers a “Feet of the Forest” art and science residence camp Aug. 9-13 at Camp Latgawa near Lake Creek. Kids who have completed fourth through eighth grades are eligible to take part in the four-night session, which offers hands-on art and science activities. Southern Oregon Historical Society plans a week-long day history camp at Hanley Farm, 1053 Hanley Road, between Central Point and Jacksonville from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 19-29. Kids 6 to 11 will make pottery, take photos, prepare traditional food, hike and pan for gold. They will learn traditional songs and games and learn about famous local residents including Peter Britt, Carrie Beekman and James Poole. The week will include a trip into Jacksonville for a woodland hike, exploration of the Jacksonville Children's Museum and a visit to the pioneer cemetery. The cost is $180 per child. Siskiyou Field Institute, 1241 Illinois River Road, Selma, will offer three day camps for kids 7-12 this summer. “Fire!”, aimed at helping kids discover how fire affects land and how it is used as a tool, is set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21-24, and the cost is $110. “Animals!”, in which kids will explore and search for animals and which includes a visit to Wildlife Images, is set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29-July 1 and costs $85. “Water!”, in which kids will discover what lives in Deer Creek and take a field trip to the Oregon Caves National Monument to see how water changes rock, is set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 6-9 and costs $130. St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 95 Cleveland St., Shady Cove, offers a summer Bible camp from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 2-4 for kids entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It's free. Resources and People Camp, Run by the Forest Service and located at Camp Esther Applegate on Lake of the Woods. Rap Camp starts June 12 and ends June 18. Sixty high school students from the Pacific Northwest and twelve teachers are invited to come to this science and career camp to learn about opportunities in natural resources. Teachers can earn three graduate credits through SOU by attending camp. It is a week packed full of activities including field sessions in the camp area run by the Forest Service, BLM, and ODFW. The camp also includes field trips to local ranches, range areas, the PCT, fish hatcheries, the Fort Klamath Museum and Crater Lake.
