Murphy places 23rd in AJGA golf event

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Kevin Murphy of Rogue River shot a 1-under par 71 in his final round Thursday and finished tied for 23rd at the PING Phoenix Junior golf tournament.

The American Junior Golf Association 54-hole event at the par-72 Moon Valley Country Club had a field of 57 boys 12-18 years old.

Murphy completed the AJGA tournament with a 4-over 220.

Murphy carded four birdies and three bogeys during his 1-under par round Thursday.

Murphy posted a 75 in his opening round, followed by a 74 on the 7,210-yard course.

The Rogue River High incoming junior finished runner-up for two straight years in the state Class 3A golf championships.

Taylor Zoller of North Charleston, S.C., recorded a 9-under 207 to win the tournament by three strokes over Brett Wilson of Meza, Ariz.
