Injured skateboarder is recovering

The Ashland skateboarder found unconscious at 2:15 a.m. Sept. 23 after falling from his skateboard has been upgraded to fair condition, Providence Medford Medical Center officials said.

Simon Brooks, 19, suffered a severe head injury during the fall, which happened near the intersection of North Mountain Avenue and Larkspur Lane. He was taken to Providence and initially listed in critical condition.

Fair condition means "vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and alert, although may be uncomfortable or in pain and may have minor complications," according to the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems.

A police investigation showed Brooks had fallen while traveling down a steep hill. He had left a friend behind who had decided to walk down the section instead. The friend heard Brooks falls and rushed to the bottom to find him injured.
