  • A head-on collision closed three lanes on Crater Lake Highway just after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and left one motorist seriously injured.
According to Medford police, Medford resident Raymond Preston was traveling north in a 1992 Mazda pickup when he crossed the centerline for unknown reasons. He struck a southbound 2006 Ford Mustang driven by White City resident Cheryl Wilsey, police said.
The crash occurred near the intersection with Burlcrest Drive.
When police arrived, both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles. It took Medford Fire and Rescue officials 30 minutes to extricate them.
Both Wilsey and Preston were transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center. Wilsey was treated and released. Preston underwent emergency surgery and was listed in serious condition as of Wednesday afternoon.
RVMC spokesman Grant Walker could not comment on surgery specifics.
Westbound traffic was detoured after the accident, and eastbound traffic was scaled down to a single lane for several hours.
