For the eighth year in a row, family owned-Kaleidoscope Pizzeria and Pub has been Mail Tribune readers' favorite place to get a pizza pie.

Jake Allmaras, his wife, Kristi Haavig, and their son Ben Allmaras make quality their top priority, they say.

"We do that by buying really high-quality ingredients, like the special organic cheese we get from Wisconsin," says Jake Allmaras. "We're fanatics about that. We don't always get it right, but we believe the quality of the food and the service is something that we try to do better than anybody else."

The pizzeria, at 3084 Crater Lake Highway, features pies made with gourmet ingredients, 14 local microbrews and a wine list of more than 100 wines to choose from. "We also sell our draft beer to go, in growlers, in half-gallon jugs," says Allmaras. "We were one of the first people in Medford to do that."

The restaurant is decorated in bright colors to match its name and has a large patio with misters in the summer to keep customers cool.

"We're grateful every time our patrons come back. We don't take any customers for granted," Allmaras says.

Other favorites: Jackson Creek and Papa Murphy's, both in Medford.
