Wide selection, fresh ingredients and what owner Dan Allen calls a "warm, friendly atmosphere" helped Great Harvest Bread Co. clinch the top spot for the 2011 Readers' Choice awards for Best Bakery.

Free samples probably don't hurt, either.

This is the 10th year Great Harvest has taken home the prize. The bakery moved a block south earlier this year from the corner of Jackson and Genessee streets into a new building at 203 Genessee St., Medford.

Allen says the main reason for the continued success of the business is his crew.

"They're just amazing," he says.

The bakery features a large menu of fresh-baked breads — including gluten-less breads — along with muffins and cookies, a full sandwich menu, a dining area and coffee.
