  • A household name after more than 60 years, Dairy Queen has mastered desserts among local ice-cream fans.
Known for sundaes, ice-cream cakes, cones and 25 flavors of its trademark Blizzard, Dairy Queen has 5,800 locations in the U.S., Canada and 22 countries. Locally, you can find three DQ Grill & Chills in Medford and one in White City.
Founded in Joliet, Ill., in 1940, Dairy Queen opened its first Rogue Valley store in White City in 1978.
Joe Donnelly, owner of the Biddle Road store, says Dairy Queen's tradition is to provide consistent quality, despite a changing menu of Blizzards and treats.
Donnelly says individual owners strive to be the local ice-cream shop.
"We do bend over backwards for customers and just try to please everyone who comes through our doors," he says.
Other favorites: Yogurt Hut and Cold Stone Creamery, both of Medford.
