  • After nearly a quarter century of tossing pizzas dough and hosting thousands of birthday parties and gatherings, Bruno's Pizza owner Stan Miller is retiring.
The pizzeria at 2105 Roberts Road in north Medford will reopen Tuesday as Baci's Pizza and Pasta, owned by Oren and Jennie Ben-Dayan.
Oren Ben-Dayan, one of Miller's proteges, has operated Baci's Pizza in Rogue River for the past 10 years.
He was a student at Ashland High School when he went to work for Bruno's in 1992. Ben-Dayan worked there until 1997 when he left to work for Les Schwab Tires. When Stan's son, Bruce Miller, decided to sell Baci's in Rogue River in 2000, Stan Miller contacted Ben-Dayan, who seized the opportunity. The master and apprentice have worked together since on dough, pizza and meat sauce recipes.
Oren Ben-Dayan is the general manager of both Baci's locations, while Jennie is a manager at Sterling Savings Bank in Medford and Jacksonville.
The stores have shared a kinship, Jennie Ben-Dayan said. "Like sisters, the stores have a lot in common, but also have their own identities."
Miller told Oren Ben-Dayan in August that he was ready to retire and spend more time traveling and with his grandson.
All seven of Bruno's current part-time employees will stay on with Baci's, joined by some of veterans from the Rogue River restaurant.
"Once we have had some time to learn about the flow of business, we will look at adding staff members in Medford," Jennie Ben-Dayan said.
She said Bruno's favorites are already a part of the Baci's menu, which can be viewed at www.bacispizza.com.
"Stan made a great impact on the community in his 25 years by supporting local sports teams, school clubs and churches, and by instilling values in the dozens of teenagers that have gone through his work program," Jennie Ben-Dayan said.
Both Baci's locations are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. The Medford restaurant's telephone number remains 541-773-3708.
