  • A handgun tied to the drive-by shooting Tuesday in Central Point has been found after an extensive search by investigators along Beall Lane and Old Stage Road.
Beth Heckert, chief deputy district attorney, said investigators traced the route of the high-speed pursuit on 4 a.m. Tuesday.
She wouldn't disclose where the gun was found, only revealing that it was somewhere prior to the crash site in the 8200 block of Old Stage Road.
Investigators have confidence that the gun found was the one used in the shooting.
"There will be further testing done on the firearm to determine if it is the firearm used in the drive-by shooting," she said.
Heckert didn't disclose the brand of handgun or the caliber.
On Tuesday morning, a Chevrolet Impala with four suspects tied to the NorteĆ3/8os gang were involved in a shooting that left Erik Dorey, 22, of Central Point with wounds to his jaw and his passenger, Jennifer Knutson, 19, with minor wounds, sheriff's officials said.
The driver of the Impala, Miguel A. Carbajal, 19, of Traver, Calif., was charged with 11 counts ranging from attempted murder to manslaughter.
Gustavo Santiago, 16, of Central Point, died when he was ejected from the Impala after it rolled down an embankment on Old Stage Road.
Another passenger, Francisco J. Campos, 19, of Traver is recovering from injuries.
A fourth passenger and sex offender, Gabriel Perez, 20, of Medford fled the crash scene and police are still searching for him.
