This photo of violet-tailed sylph was submitted for the 2011 Oregon Outdoors Wild Bird Photo Contest by Gayle Mitchell Stokes of Jacksonville. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Dec. 9.

The 2011 Oregon Outdoors Wild Bird Photo Contest is heading into its third week, and as of Thursday, 54 photos had been uploaded to our contest website at www.mailtribune.com/birdcontest.

To enter, go to the website, fill out a registration form and follow the directions to upload your photos. You can enter up to three pictures.

Grand prize is a pair of Pro Master Binoculars, EL 10 x 42, valued at $299, from Total Camera and Video, 1310 A Center Drive, Medford, 541-772-6808, www.totalcamera.net.

First place is a pair of Eagle Optics Denali 8 x 42 Roof Prism Binoculars, valued at $229, from Wild Birds Unlimited, 712 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, 541-770-1104, www.medford.wbu.com.

Second place is a $100 gift certificate from Grange Co-op.

Third place receives a pair of Bushnell 8 x 42 binoculars, valued at $79, from Black Bird Shopping Center, 1810 W. Main St., Medford, 541-772-8036, http://blackbirdshoppingcenter.com.

Fourth place takes home a Patriot bird feeder and 20-pound bag of bird seed, valued at $36, from Black Bird Shopping Center.

Entries must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9.
