TALENT — The three gunshots fired into a Talent home Thanksgiving morning stemmed from what police are calling "relationship issues" between the parties involved, police said.
Police continue to investigate the specifics of those issues, but Talent police Chief Mike Moran said they were "somewhere at the root of the whole problem."
Police say Aaron Daniel Adrian Merlina, 28, showed up at the home of Dyana Rodrigues, 31, and Gerald Blake Wooley, 26, on the 100 block of South First Street with another unidentified person at 6:45 a.m. Thursday. The person's identity has not been released; he or she is considered a witness to the crime.
After an argument started, Merlina allegedly fired three shots into the home with a small-caliber handgun, two through a window and one through the front door, before leaving the scene with the unidentified individual.
No one was hurt, but Rodrigues' 11-year-old daughter was showered with glass after shots came through a window near where she had been sleeping.
Moran said the altercation was a continuation of a fight that occurred Wednesday night at Merlina's home on the 3100 block of South Pacific Highway.
Medford police were given descriptions of Merlina's vehicle once he'd been identified as the suspect. They arrested him at his home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday without incident.
He was being held in the Jackson County Jail Friday on charges of attempted murder, unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of attempted first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and three counts of reckless endangerment.
He was in jail in lieu of just over $1 million bail. Most of the bail amount stems from the attempted murder charge, jail officials said.
Police said the 11-year-old is not part of the dispute between the families and that the investigation is still ongoing.
"Just to make sure we sort out all the details," Moran said.
The case has been referred to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for review.
