  • A Traver, Calif., man initially held as a material witness in a Central Point drive-by shooting has been indicted on charges accusing him of conspiring in the Nov. 1 shooting.
A Jackson County grand jury indicted Francisco Javier Campos, 19, on two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit first-degree assault and one count of criminal conspiracy to commit second-degree assault.
Each count of conspiring to commit aggravated murder carries a mandatory 10-year minimum sentence upon conviction, while conspiring to commit murder carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 7.5 years, chief deputy district attorney Beth Heckert said in a news release announcing the indictment.
Campos was in a Chevy Impala from which shots were fired at a couple in an Isuzu traveling westbound on Beall Lane at about 4 a.m. Nov. 1. Erik Lee Dorey, 22, of Gold Hill, was shot in the jaw and his girlfriend, Jennifer Knutson, 19, of Central Point, received minor injuries from shrapnel and broken glass.
Another 19-year-old from Dinuba, Calif., Miguel Angel Carbajal already has been indicted on 11 charges, including attempted aggravated murder and first-degree manslaughter, related to the shooting and a fatal car crash as he sped away. He is suspected of being the driver, but not the shooter, prosecutors said. The crash killed passenger Gustavo Santiago, 16, of Central Point.
Police are still looking for another man believed to have been in the car, Gabriel Perez, 20, of Medford.
Campos, who has been lodged in the Jackson County Jail as a material witness since Nov. 4, remains in jail.
