An annual holiday food drive that starts Tuesday, Dec. 20, on Greystone Court in Medford has the potential to raise $100,000 for ACCESS after receiving two large grants.
Schnitzer Steel Industries of Portland and the Kimmel Family Foundation, based in Eagle Point, are each donating $25,000 during the five-day food drive. Schnitzer also will match community donations up to $25,000, bringing potential donations to $100,000.
The food drive will run from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 20 to Dec. 24. Visitors who drive down Greystone Court to view the annual Christmas light display are encouraged to donate money or nonperishable food items during that time.
Greystone Court is off North Phoenix Road in East Medford. Residents of Greystone Court and ACCESS staff will be there to take donations.
More than 4,000 cars are expected to drive through the cul-de-sac during the five-day food drive.
Santa Claus will hand out candy canes to children each night, the drive-through Starbucks on Delta Waters Drive will provide free cups of hot chocolate to visitors, and local choirs will sing Christmas carols on two of the nights.
