• Grizzlies shine in four-way swim meet

  • ASHLAND — Parker Massie, Kai Staal and Forrest Kollar combined for three first-place and three second-place finishes to help the Ashland boys sweep a four-way swim meet at Southern Oregon University pool Wednesday.
    Ashland's girls team also went 3-0 against South Medford, Phoenix and Cascade Christian.
    Massie won the 100-yard backstroke and placed second in the 100 freestyle, while Kollar won the 200 individual medley and was runner-up in the 100 butterfly. Staal prevailed in the 100 freestyle and placed second in the 50 freestyle.
    South Medford's Sarah Reierson and Kaylee Cooper each won two events and were part of the Panthers' triumphant 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay squads in the head coaching debut of Vickie Reierson, who took over this week for Daryl Armstead after he resigned from his post last Friday.
    Sarah Reierson won the 200 individual medley in 2:32.02 and 100 freestyle in 57.25, while Cooper claimed the 100 butterfly (1:02.99) and 200 freestyle (2:04.06).
    Cascade Christian's Aaron Ghiglieri and Breanna Sapienza also won two events apiece, with Ghiglieri winning in the 50 free (21.42) and 100 fly (51.25) and Sapienza touching first in the 50 free (25.00) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.25).

    SOUTH MEDFORD 11, CRATER 8 — Jake Sexton had three goals and Taylor Rose and Cy Jenson both recorded two goals for South Medford in a key clash at The RRRink.
    Jenson also finished with four assists and Ryan Lund added a goal and three assists for the Panthers, who raced out to an 11-4 lead in the third period before Crater scored four straight.
    J.R. Keyser scored four goals and Daniel Gomez turned in three goals and two assists for Crater.
    Brandon Punsuk, Tucker Hasse and Steven Weber each netted a goal for South (7-2).
    Dustin Gomez knocked in the final goal of the match for the Comets.
    South Medford goalkeeper Johnny Lines made 22 saves, while Crater's Alec Looman registered 21 saves.
