HILLSBORO — Eagle Point and Grants Pass each advanced two wrestlers into the championship semifinals and Crater had one advance to highlight Friday's action at the Reser's Tournament of Champions at Liberty High.
Aaron Lorenz (120 pounds) and heavyweight Manny Valdovinos, both seeded fifth, went undefeated to set the standard for the Eagles, while Crater's Chance Fahndrich, seeded third, moved on at 182. Top-seeded Casey Coulter (106) and No. 3 seed Ryan Shean (170) also advanced to today's semifinals.
Roseburg took the team scoring lead with 136 points, well ahead of Sweet Home (95.5), Dallas (90.5), Crook County (83.5) and Cascade (80.5).
Grants Pass stands 16th with 49.5 points, with Crater one spot back at 48.5 and Eagle Point 21st (42) in the 24-team field.
Fahndrich scored a 10-6 decision over Crook County's Dylan Blasius before securing his spot in the finals with a 6-1 overtime decision over Grants Pass' Chad Lowe. Fahndrich will meet second-seeded Cody Crawford of Cascade in today's semifinals.
Lorenz was a 9-0 winner over Redmond's Austin Rystedt and an 8-4 winner over fourth-seeded Jared Kasch of Culver to reach the semis, while Valdovinos used a forfeit and a fall in 1:01 over Canby's Alejandro Sandoval to advance.
Lorenz faces top-seeded Ronnie Bresser of Henley today, and Valdovinos will square off against top-seeded Jared Groner of Oregon City.
Coulter advanced on a pair of forfeits and a 7-2 decision over Oregon City's Devin Poppen, and Shean made it to the semis after pinning Henley's Emilio Peck in 1:09, winning 7-1 over Hermiston's Alec St. Hilaire and scoring a technical fall against Redmond's Gunnar Sigado.
Coulter will match up against Crook County's Trayton Libolt and Shean will face second-seeded Ryker Smith of West Albany today.
