2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon chili-garlic paste
2 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
2 pounds green beans, ends trimmed
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Preheat oven to 450 F. Lightly oil a shallow roasting pan or rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray or a thin film of oil. Whisk together the sesame oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, chili-garlic paste and minced garlic. Place the green beans in pan and drizzle with sauce. Toss to evenly coat each bean with some sauce, then spread into a shallow, uncrowded layer.

Roast until beans are well-browned, giving pan a healthy shake now and then for even cooking. It will only take about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove pan from oven, season beans with the freshly ground black pepper, transfer to a warmed serving bowl and serve immediately.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.

VARIATION: For additional depth of flavor, include a peeled and sliced onion, tossing it in sauce with green beans. Onion will brown and caramelize during roasting process.
