  • The North Medford and Crater track and field teams settled on a split during their Southern Oregon Hybrid meet on Wednesday at Bowerman Field, with the Black Tornado boys and the Comet girls prevailing.
    North Medford senior Colton Cheney secured first-place efforts in the discus, javelin and triple jump for the Black Tornado, which topped Crater 83-60.
    Dan Wood won the 200-meter sprint and 110-meter hurdles for the Comets.
    On the girls side, Svea Bahre captured victories in the 200-meter race and pole vault for Crater, which edged North Medford 77-68. Rebecca Davidson won the shot put and discus for the Black Tornado.

    CRATER INVITE — South Medford ran away with the team title and defending Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state champion Monica Vaughn of Reedsport earned medalist honors in the second annual Crater Pre-Spring Break Invitational at Centennial Golf Club.
    Christina Phelps and Tessa Spivey both shot sub-100 rounds to lift the Panthers to victory, while Vaughn cruised to a 15-stroke victory over runner-up Phelps (85).
    Crater was led by Fallon Wallace's 100 and Ashland by Sophia Sommer's 119.
