CENTRAL POINT — The North Medford and Crater baseball teams played two Southern Oregon Hybrid games and got two very different results on Saturday.
The Black Tornado eked out a 4-3 win in an opener that lasted 12 innings, and then the Comets bounced back from their first defeat of the year by beating North 16-2 in five innings at Anhorn Field.
In Game 1 of the twin bill, Jared Evans' bunt scored Bryan Carbonell in the top of the 12th inning and gave the Black Tornado the go-ahead run. Micah Brown's RBI single in the seventh tied the game at 3.
Colton Westfall, North's starting pitcher, struck out seven and allowed two hits and three runs in eight innings of work. He had a no-hitter going until the fifth inning, when Tyler Aplin hit a bases-clearing double with two outs.
Hayden Evans and Westfall both went 2-for-5 for the Black Tornado (8-1, 3-1 SOH) in the opener.
Crater's Matt Preston struck out six and allowed one earned run (three total) in six innings of work before being replaced by Chris Painter in the seventh.
In Game 2, Corey Wynant was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, Cole Berriochoa 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs and Ty Fox 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run for Crater (10-1, 4-1).
Blake Fahndrich hit a two-run single and Taylor Pardee and Berriochoa added two-run doubles during the Comets' eight-run third inning. Crater had eight hits in the inning.

SOUTH MEDFORD 8-1, ASHLAND 3-4 — South Medford's Taren Bradd went 3-for-4, scored three times and drove in two runs to help the Panthers snap a three-game losing streak in the first game of the nonconference twin bill at Harry & David Field.
Kirk Eastman, Pat Alexander and Nate Namanny had two hits apiece for the Panthers (2-7), who got six innings out of pitcher Austin Reames. The senior lefty struck out five, walked seven and surrendered three runs, two earned.
Ashland junior Jamie Flynn picked up the complete-game victory in Game 2 after holding the Panthers to one run on four hits. He struck out four without a walk and also went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Grizzlies (4-4).

Also for the Cavemen (3-5), Justin Spinner went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Chace Van Ess 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Eagle Point (4-8) was led by Evan Jolliffe, who had two of the Eagles' four hits. Jolliffe had an RBI and scored twice.

In the opener, Fred Hults offered up two hits and McLaughlin bashed a two-run double.
Max Peters was 3-for-3 for Bandon in Game 1.
