Tiazza Rose focuses foremost on training, but she also provides counseling for sports nutrition, noting that eating the right food is 80 percent of fitness — and Southern Oregon is full of organic farmers who make good food available and abundant.
A native Moroccan who hails from New York City, Rose is a certified sports nutritionist who is very much against "dieting." She teaches how food works in the body, how the politics of food impairs nutrition and how good food greatly enhances performance.
For one student, all it took was to swear off fast food. He lost 35 pounds in January and February and switched to organic food, no packaged stuff, she says.
"They start changing not only their own eating, but their family's. They start reading labels. They learn about the food system and how food is manufactured. We end the class with a segment on cooking good food. We're trying to learn to eat the way people did centuries ago."
