One name stands out in the field of locally grown produce.
Fry Family Farm began in 1989 at Steve and Suzy Fry's Talent home and expanded to land in Ashland and Medford for cultivating all manner of vegetables.
"Both of us loved growing things," says Suzy Fry.
Certified organic almost since the beginning, the Frys also were one of the local pioneers of community-supported agriculture, which supplies weekly boxes of produce and flowers to about 140 subscribers' between June and November. As the model gained popularity over the past decade, the Frys developed partial and senior-sized shares and continued doorstep delivery as other farms eliminated it to cut costs.
Fry Family also wholesales, even as far away as Eugene. Local retailers of Fry Family vegetables and salad mix are Ashland and Medford food co-ops, Food 4 Less in Medford and Tark's Market in Talent. The family's stall also is a mainstay of the Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market and Grants Pass Growers Market.
