The owner of Southern Oregon Pilates credits her clients with being the "best ever."
The same distinction applies to Debbie Richter, who was again singled out as the favorite Pilates instructor by Oregon Healthy Living readers.
Her Medford studio, founded five years ago at 1910 Barnett Road, Suite 104, hosts group, duet and private Pilates classes, as well as general conditioning. Before focusing on Pilates, Richter worked for decades as a personal trainer. She employs two other instructors.
"Everything is trainer-directed here," she says. "I'm very strongly committed to their success."
About 80 percent of her clients are women, and a high percentage are retirees, says Richter.
Increasing numbers of people find Pilates after being released from physical therapy and wondering where to go next, she adds. Devised for rehabilitation, Pilates uses mat work and specialized equipment to exercise the body's core without stressing joints. A smaller demographic of Pilates practitioners are athletes conditioning for specific sports.
