  • Readers of Oregon Healthy Living didn't pick a hands-on massage therapist as their favorite. Erin Daugherty uses her feet to relieve clients' pain and restore well-being.
Employing Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, Daugherty literally walks on clients while holding onto a configuration of overhead bars and shifting her body weight.
“I think that I can reach a deep therapeutic level ... with my feet ... without pain,” says Daugherty, sole owner of Ashland's Mariday Massage, located at Wellspring Centre for Body Balance, 108 E. Hersey St., Suite 2A.
Whereas elbows or knuckles can feel invasive and sharp, the broad surfaces of feet can sink deeply into the body, says Daugherty. She attended International Professional School of Bodywork in Pacific Beach, Calif., and obtained advanced training at Nevada School for Massage, where she met Ruthie Piper Hardee, who developed ashiatsu.
One of about a half-dozen ashiatsu practitioners in the Rogue Valley, Daugherty also performs Mana Lomi Hawaiian massage, cranial-sacral manipulation, deep-tissue myofascial release and reflexology.
