  • ASHLAND — Kaylee Grigsby's RBI single capped a four-run rally in the sixth inning as Mazama beat Ashland 6-5 in Game 2 to complete a nonconference sweep at North Mountain Park on Thursday.
    Leann Valenta went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to help Mazama take the opening game 8-4.
    Ashland freshman pitcher Georgia Williams threw 277 pitches combined, including 162 in the first game. She finished the day with eight strikeouts and 17 walks.
    In the opener, Ashland (3-12) fell behind 7-0 heading into the fourth before rallying to get within four runs. Junior varsity call-up Grace Lenphe came through with the key hit, a three-run single in the sixth.
    Mazama's Lynzee Wortman pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks.
    In Game 2, the Grizzlies scored three runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead before the Vikings (11-3) fought back in what proved to be the final inning (the game was called after six innings when it became too dark to play).
    For Ashland, Christina Kuykendall was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run, Teresa Lehman was 2-for-3 with a double and Piper Cantrell was 2-for-4 and scored once.

    GRANT PASS 5, NORTH MEDFORD 3 — North Medford No. 2 singles player Hannah Von Strahl avenged a loss suffered only two days prior in convincing fashion, defeating Megan Ward 6-3, 6-3 at North Medford High.

    In No. 2 singles, Kenny Pederson of North Medford upended Zach Williams, 6-2, 6-2.
