After Rogue River pitcher Lacey Swangle baffled Cascade Christian in their Southern Cascade Hybrid opener on Friday, the Challengers found a way to get past their offensive woes and salvage a victory in the nightcap.
Swangle tossed a two-hitter to start the Chieftains out with a 7-2 victory but the Challengers got to the Rogue River ace in Game 2 for a 11-7 win at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
Swangle went seven innings in Game 1, giving up a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth and struck out nine.
She was helped in the second inning by a two-run single from Hope Wolterman which bolstered the Chieftain lead to 3-0.
The Challengers (4-11, 2-1 SCH), however, ripped off 15 hits in Game 2 while overcoming six errors.
Swangle was charged the loss working the first inning and then innings four through seven.
Up 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Meghan Higday delivered for the Challengers, knocking home two runs on a double with the bases loaded. The Challengers finished with four runs in the frame to go up 10-2.
The Challengers' Jordan Martinez went 3-for-4, drove in three runs and scored once as Haley Casebier went 3-for-4 as well with a pair of runs and a RBI.
Higday finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Cassie Zimmerer was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
