  • Two of the areas top golfers didn't disappoint at the 16-team Phoenix Invitational at Centennial Golf Club on Wednesday.
    St. Mary's Dylan Wu fired a 6-under par 66 to take home medalist honors and propel the Crusaders to a team title.
    Rogue River's Kevin Murphy wasn't far behind, recording a 69 for second place individually.
    St. Mary's finished with 294 strokes. Roseburg (307) was second and Grants Pass placed third (315).
    Tom Thorndike carded a 72 to capture third, while Crusader teammates Will Street shot a 77 and Brandon Chun a 79.

    Freshman Denton Edwards broke the game open in the bottom of the first with a three-run double for the Crusaders (3-6), who ended the game early by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule.
    Jacob Wall earned the win, striking out seven while allowing seven hits, one walk and one hit batter.

    SOUTH SWEEPS — At Ashland, Kodie Artner won three events to lead the South Medford boys past Ashland in a nonconference dual, 95-56, at Ashland High.
    Three South Medford girls were multiple winners as the Panthers doubled up the Grizzlies, 102-45.
    Artner placed first in the 100-meter dash (11.46), the 200 (23.40) and the 110 hurdles (15.78).
