YREKA, Calif. 5, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 4, 8 inn. — Snake-bitten by errors and stranded runners, Cascade Christian couldn't convert on its comeback against a high-powered Yreka squad which stole a victory in the eighth inning at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
After Yreka struck in the top of the eighth inning with two runs, Cody Coggins' one-out single in the bottom of the frame brought the Challengers within one run of tying the game.
The Challengers proceeded by loading the bases with just one out, but the final two batters of the inning struck out.
The Challengers' rally from a 3-0 deficit began in the bottom of the third on Luke Dusenbury's two-out, two-run single. Isaiah Luzny knotted the score at 3-all with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth.
Dusenbury, Coggins and Luzny all had three hits — they combined for nine of the Challengers' 12 hits and drove in all of their runs. Coggins and Dusenbury both drove in two and Luzny provided one RBI.
The Challengers committed five errors and left 11 runners on base.
