  • The North Medford softball team received several honors from Southern Oregon Hybrid coaches for their perfect league season.
Sophomore shortstop Joci Ellis was named the SOH player of the year and, for a second straight year, junior Maryssa Becker was chosen as the pitcher of the year.
North's Mike Mayben was coach of the year, and four other members of the Black Tornado (junior catcher Katie Williamson, senior center fielder Sierra Berryessa, freshman right fielder Grace Jovanovic and junior utility player/designated hitter Michelle Draper) were selected to the first team.
North finished 12-0 in conference play and is 25-1 overall.
Ellis owned a .512 league batting average and led the Black Tornado in hitting (21) and stolen bases (seven). She recorded eight RBIs and nine runs.
Becker boasted an 11-0 SOH record with a 0.17 ERA. In 81 innings, she allowed just four runs — only two were earned — and had 129 strikeouts to just 15 walks. She was also second on the team with a .447 batting average and drove in a team-high 13 runs.
Crater infielders Kenzie Rohde and Malorie Mitchell and outfielder Rachel Ray and South Medford catcher Katie Ramsay were also named to the first team.
