Jim and June Giorvas of Medford celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception June 2, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Seventy-six guests attended.
Jim Giorvas married June Thompson on May 30, 1952. They have two daughters, Judy Marie Smith and son-in-law, Tim, of Grants Pass, and JoAnn Foerster and son-in-law, Lee, of Medford; a son, James W. Giorvas and daughter-in-law Karol of Tualatin; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Jim was born in Santa Maria, Calif., and was raised in San Francisco. He retired from the San Francsico Fire Department as a lieutenant after 26 years of service. June was born in Oklahoma City and moved to San Francisco when she was 10 years old. She met Jim while working at Fuller Paints in San Francisco.
In 1970, they moved to Fort Jones, Calif., where they operated Marble Mountain Ranch Resort. June later worked and retired as a registered dental assistant, and in 1983, the couple moved to Medford.
In their retirement, the couple traveled with the Wally Bynum Airstream Club and have taken cruises to Alaska, the Mediterranean, Mexico and the Panama Canal. They also have spent winters for the past 24 years in their desert home in Desert Center, Calif.
