“Trio: Couture, Javna & Litteken,” a contemporary collection of works by Glide artist Renee Couture, Ashland artist Maggie Javna and Hamilton, Ohio, artist Matthew Litteken, will be displayed through Saturday, July 14, at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford.
This is the gallery's second “Trio” exhibit this year. Last year, 24 artists answered the gallery's call for artists. Of that, nine were chosen and divided into three “Trio” exhibits.
Couture and Littekin address social issues in their conceptual, thought-provoking works.
The former artist will showcase her multimedia installation, “Shadow Effects,” made up of pine cones, lumber, card catalogs, photography and charts with statistics about public libraries and lands.
“Renee is very fascinated with the notion of 'public' and how we as citizens decide what happens to what is ours,” says Jules Masterjohn, the gallery's executive director.
Littekin investigates the idea of consumerism in his oil paintings and mixed-media, monotype prints. He incorporates the iconic scrollwork, leaf patterns and fonts of the $1 bill into his works.
Javna's pieces are a respite for the mind after seeing the other artists' works, Masterjohn says.
Javna will show nearly a dozen nonobjective, textured, acrylic-on-wood paintings.
