The suspect in a Monday morning hit-and-run that left one dead and injured several others is in the Jackson County Jail on over $1 million bail, jail records show.
Leta Schroeder, 34, is held on charges of second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving and four counts of hit and run. Her bail total is set at $1.04 million.
Police say Schroeder allegedly fled the scene of an accident on foot early Monday morning after she crashed her pickup truck into the side of a passenger van at the corner of Crater Lake Highway and Highway 99. The van, carrying a seven-man reforestation work crew from Pacific Coast Contracting, Inc., out of Central Point, toppled over.
The crash left one man dead and one in critical condition. Witness reports say Schroeder ran a red light, but that has not yet been confirmed by police.
The names of those injured in the crash still have not been released by police.
Schroeder was found 14 hours after the crash at a White City residence. She had injuries, which police suspect are from the crash. She was taken to Providence Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Jail records show she was booked today.
