New York City-based alt-rock band Fun (stylized as Fun.) — with the hit song "We Are Young" — will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Britt Pavilion, 350 First St., Jacksonville.
Singer and songwriter Nate Ruess (The Format) formed the group with percussionist Andrew Dost (Anathallo) and guitarist Jack Antonoff (Steel Train).
Ruess met Antonoff briefly when the boys were 18 years old and visiting punk rock shows in New Jersey. Ruess began working in one of the clubs when he was 16. It's how he developed a sense of what really works and what is boring, he states in the band's bio, and Antonoff was in love with the whole scene — well, almost.
"In the late '90s, there was a brilliant punk world happening in legion halls and fire houses," Antonoff states in the bio. "I was immediately taken with Nate's voice, but everything else, no."
When Ruess and Antonoff wound up on tour together, there was an "oh, this guy" kind of vibe between them, but one day into the tour they became inseparable.
Fun has not stopped living up to its name since its 2009 debut, "Aim and Ignite." A year later, the boys were opening for Paramore and performing alongside such acts as The Strokes and Jay-Z.
Its newest album, "Some Nights," was released this year. "We Are Young" comes off the second album.
Hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang from Philadelphia will open the show. Ashland rock band The Stamps will perform from 6 to 7 p.m. on the Table Rock City Stage. Lawn seating is available for $23, $20 for ages 12 and younger. See www.brittfest.org, call 541-773-6077 or visit the box office at 216 W. Main St., Medford.
