  • CORVALLIS — There is a chance — a slim possibility — that the Nicholls State football team will be unable to travel to Corvallis for Saturday's scheduled noon season opener at Reser Stadium.
According to the Thibodaux (La.) Daily Comet, Tropical Storm Isaac is bearing down on Louisiana, has already forced the cancellation of the Colonels' football practices through Wednesday and could mess up their travel plans.
"If it looks like we are able and regroup, at best it would be a Thursday afternoon brief practice, pack everything up properly, get organized and get on a plane on Friday — that's the best possibly there is," Nicholls State coach Charlie Stubbs told the Daily Comet.
"The other possibility is that the (Oregon State) game is just not going to happen. Some of that is out of our control. With power going out or the airport being closed, it's not a decision by us. It's one that could be made for us. Right now, we are guardedly optimistic that we can stay on schedule."
He said he and his team want to play, as do the Beavers.
"I know we won't be as prepared as we need to be or want to be, but these types of things you can't predict," he said.
If the worst-case scenario should happen, it's "unlikely'' the Beavers could reschedule the game, according to OSU spokesman Steve Fenk.
"But we will cross that bridge when we come to it. We are all hoping for the best," he said.
