  • For years Rogue Valley residents campaigned to bring trendy grocery retailer Trader Joe's to Southern Oregon. The reality is just over a month away.
    Trader Joe's announced today it will open Oct. 19 and is taking employment applications from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
    The 13,500 square-foot store in the Northgate Marketplace at the intersection of Highway 238 and West McAndrews Road.

    The chain of neighborhood grocery stores began in 1958 in the Los Angeles area. Since then, Trader Joe's has expanded to more than 370 stores in 34 states.
    The chain carries domestic and imported foods and beverages including fresh baked artisan breads, Arabica bean coffees, international frozen entrées, juices, nuts, deli items, and vitamins and supplements.
    Trade Joe's buys directly from manufacturers, not through distributors. The retailer sells more than 2,000 items under its own private label, which includes Trader José's salsas, Trader Ming's fried rice, Trader Giotto's marinara sauces, in addition to specially purchased items.
