KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Following a strong performance to start the season at last weekend's Humboldt State Invitational, the Southern Oregon men's cross country team remained atop the first regular-season NAIA Top 25 poll and the women's team climbed one spot to No. 12 on Wednesday.

The Raider men picked up 19 of 21 first-place votes to total 590 points in the poll, ranking ahead of No. 2 Cal. State San Marcos (558) and No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist (549). Sophomore Eric Avila won the individual title and led SOU to a first-place team finish at Saturday's Humboldt State meet. Southern Oregon tops the poll for the second time this season, after the Raiders were listed at No. 1 in the preseason poll.

The SOU women team garnered 367 points after Summer Cano won the race and helped SOU finish second at Humboldt State. San Marcos tops the poll as a unanimous choice, picking up all 21 first-place votes.

Southern Oregon returns to action at the Stanford Invite on Sept. 29.
