Lacey Reen capped a spectacular run by scoring the tie-breaking goal in the 78th minute, and Katelyn Stephens added an insurance goal one minute later to give Cascade Christian a 3-1 nonconference girls soccer triumph over Henley Thursday at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
Stephens also was credited with an assist on the first goal by the Challengers (3-0). Her low, hard cross was booted home by Jillian Emard in the 32nd minute.
Henley (0-2) tied the match on Brandi Ronco's goal off a Britanny Kochenderfer assist in the 53rd minute.
Stephens scored in the 79th after taking a through ball from Emard and blasting in a shot from about 25 yards away.
NORTH VALLEY 2, ASHLAND 1 — At Ashland, North Valley's Vanessa D'Arpino gathered in a well-placed through ball and scored in the 77th minute for the nonconference win at North Mountain Park.
After falling behind 1-0 early, the Grizzlies (0-2) tied the match on Montana Pindell's bending corner kick in the 21st minute. D'Arpino gave North Valley a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when she took a throw-in near the top of the box and dribbled through for a score.
D'Arpino's twin sister, Kerissa, picked up the assist on the game-winner.
HIDDEN VALLEY 9, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Eagle Point, Emily Murphy had three goals and Katelyn Lambert two for Hidden Valley in the nonconference match.
The Mustangs (1-1) also got scores from Morgan Hansen, Raychel Clark, Cashley Long and Courtney Hart.
Senior midfielder and captain Madi Nahss played a spirited game for the Eagles (0-2), who trailed 5-0 at halftime.
HIDDEN VALLEY 2, EAGLE POINT 1 — At Murphy, Thomas Fate scored with only a couple minutes left to lift Hidden Valley in the nonconference game.
Fate took a pass from Alan Rojas in the 79th minute and made a shot from 10 yards out.
Eagle Point scored first, in the 30th minute, then Ian Hernandez tied it in the 70th minute for the Mustangs (2-0-1).
ILLINOIS VALLEY 3, COQUILLE 0 — At Cave Junction, Jovany Sanchez scored twice in the first half to lead Illinois Valley in the nonconference game, which was called in about the 72nd minute because of too many yellow cards on Coquille, said Cougars coach Rex Wessels.
Sanchez scored in the 23rd and 40th minutes for IV (1-3), and Dakota Crow added a goal in the 59th. Bryce Gardenhire got the shutout in goal.
