Don and Sherry Leach of Medford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 9, 2012.
Don Leach married Sherry Koellner Sept. 9, 1962, in Eugene. They have three children: Terry (wife Michelle) of Tennessee, Paige (husband Zac) of Utah and David (wife Kassie) of Oregon; and five grandchildren, Willie Tom, Alex, Gracie and Gizmo.
Shortly after they were married, the couple moved to Alabama, where Don was stationed in the U.S. Air Force and where they had their first son, Terry. After Don left the Air Force, they moved back to Oregon, first to North Bend, where their daughter, Paige, was born and then to Eugene.
In 1973, they moved to the Salt Lake City area where their third child, David, was born in their house. While living in Utah, they enjoyed an active life. In addition to raising their children and multiple pets, they frequently would go on camping trips and were very involved in their church. They both became accomplished singers, with Don performing for crowds as large as 25,000. Sherry also became a writer and had several of her stories and poems published in national magazines.
After retiring, the couple returned to Oregon in 2004, settling in Medford after being joined by Gramma Florence. Don has started a new career as a wood-turning artist. He has had some of his items displayed in art galleries, sells his pieces online and willingly teaches his craft to others. Sherry continues to enjoy writing and staying involved with her family and friends.
