1952

Jim and Helen Christopherson of Ruch celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a luncheon in Jacksonville at Déjà Vu Bistro Sept. 8, 2012. The event, with 40 guests attending, was hosted by their children.

Jim was born in Salem. He married Helen Carter Sept. 13, 1952, at the home of her parents, Dan and Hazel Carter, in Edenton, N.C.

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 21 years, retiring as a major in 1969. During his service, the Christophersons lived in North Carolina, California, Virginia and Arizona. Jim also served in Korea and Vietnam.

After his retirement from the Marine Corps, they moved to Ruch, and Jim worked as the manager for Medford Ice and J.J. North's restaurant. He then became a real-estate broker, owning and operating Ruch Realty until his retirement. He enjoys helping friends, farming, animals and teaching. He taught his kids to be responsible, hard-working and to excel in everything.

Helen is a trained beautician, a nurse's assistant, a homemaker and a loving friend and mother. She always was involved in her children's early lives and continues to be so. She is an active member of Ruch Community Bible Church and enjoys sewing, cooking, crafts, animals and spending time with her family and friends. She taught her kids to love.

The Christophersons also farmed their ranch and raised cattle in Ruch for several years but now have retired and are enjoying their home on the Applegate River.

They have four children: Dan Dail of Ruch, James (Chris) Christopherson Jr. of Ruch (currently living in the Republic of Georgia), Kenny Christopherson (deceased) and Sue Ruddick of Ruch. They also have nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
