    Coyotes hand Raiders first league loss

  • ASHLAND — Fifteenth-ranked College of Idaho barely pulled out the first two sets then ran away with the third in a 26-24, 27-25, 25-16 Cascade Conference win over Southern Oregon on Saturday at Bob Riehm Arena.
    Southern Oregon fell to 8-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while College of Idaho improved to 9-4 overall and 6-0 in the CCC.
    Southern Oregon's Haley Kasler and College of Idaho's Torrey Hulsey tied for the match-high kill total with 13 apiece, while SOU's Renee Yomtob posted a match-best 23 digs. C of I's Sierra Porter finished with 35 assists.
    College of Idaho hit .198 in the match while limiting Southern Oregon to a .098 attack percentage to pick up the victory.
    The Raiders used a 4-1 run to rebuild a three-point lead in the opening set, but three consecutive Yote points again tied it at 21-21. The teams exchanged points to tie at 22 and 23 before Jordan Crossley picked up a kill to give SOU a set-point. College of Idaho scored the set's final three points and clinched the set on a kill by Kylee Nawahine.
    In the second set, Southern Oregon fought off two set-points to even the score at 24 and overcame another to tie it at 25. But the Coyotes used a kill by Jessica Peacock followed by a Raider attack error to seize a two-sets-to-none lead.
    The third set was all College of Idaho, as the Yotes scored seven of the first eight points. Southern Oregon used a four-point streak to pull within two, but C of I responded with another five-point streak to go ahead by seven and clinched the match on a kill by Sofia Anxo.
