North Medford was balanced in its attack and got a little extra help from Eagle Point during nonleague volleyball Tuesday night at North Medford High.
The Black Tornado played effective throughout to gain a 25-13, 25-19, 25-20 victory over the Eagles.
North Medford next will play host to the Rogue Valley Classic, a 32-team tournament that begins at 8 a.m. Saturday.
"My girls did what they had to do to get the job done," said North Medford head coach Erika Wright. "The Eagles struggled with unforced errors and all of that helped us along the way."
Elle Bixler, a junior middle blocker, led the Black Tornado (4-3) with nine kills while senior outside hitter Emily Carlson had eight kills and four aces. Senior libero Ashley Smith added 20 digs and three aces and sophomore middle Kathy Martin supplied a .333 attacking percentage with three kills in a breakout performance.
For Eagle Point (2-5), McKinzee Parker had eight assists, Kinsey Bradshaw added five blocks and Kelly Brawner had 12 digs.
"It was just one of those nights," said EP head coach Elizabeth Bilden. "We were just not in a rhythm tonight; it just wasn't clicking all at the same time."
ASHLAND 3, CRATER 1 — At Central Point, Shelby Minor had 19 kills and setter Jordan Tilley added 35 assists and four kills, including the match-clincher in a nonconference battle at Crater High School.
Ashland won 25-15, 21-25, 30-28, 25-23.
The Grizzlies (1-2) were down 16-14 in the fourth set before taking a 23-21 lead. Crater (2-4) scored the next two points for the final tie, then Ashland scored the next two points, including Tilley's final spike off an assist by Madison Douglas.
Also for the Grizzlies, Phoebe Challman had 18 digs and Madeline Wallace 12 kills.
ROSEBURG 3, GRANTS PASS 0 — At Grants Pass, Anna Bruns had 10 kills and Pele Gianotti added seven kills and five blocks in Roseburg's 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 win in Southern Oregon Hybrid play.
The Indians improved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Grants Pass dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the SOH.
- HIDDEN VALLEY 3, SOUTH UMPQUA 1 — At Tri City, Megan Combe turned in eight kills and three aces and Cameron Allen added 10 kills for Hidden Valley (3-3) in a 25-13, 26-28, 25-18, 25-19 nonleague win.
- ST. MARY'S 3, LOST RIVER 2 — At Merrill, Hannah Graunke used two aces to help serve St. Mary's to a seven-point advantage to open the pivotal fifth game and the Crusaders went on from there to gain a nonleague win. St. Mary's won 25-11, 21-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-6.
Graunke finished with 10 digs and two kills, while the Crusaders got solid efforts from Nina Console (11 kills, seven digs) and Giogio Dantoni (11 digs, five kills).
CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, CHILOQUIN 0 — Karlee Britton had six kills and five aces to lead host Cascade Christian in the nonconference match.
The Challengers (3-4) also got six kills from Mackenzie Kelton and six aces from Elise Gardner.
BONANZA 3, ROGUE RIVER 0 — At Rogue River, Kortney Moore had eight kills for Rogue River in the nonleague match.
Darby Gibson made six blocks and Ariana Lee chipped in four kills for the Chieftains (0-6).
LAKEVIEW 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 2 — At Cave Junction, Illinois Valley's Alex LaFlamme had 19 assists, three kills and two blocks as Lakeview beat the Cougars 25-8, 26-24, 25-18 in Southern Cascade Hybrid play.
Illinois Valley (0-5, 0-1 SCH) committed 25 errors against the Honkers (5-2, 1-0).
PROSPECT 3, BUTTE FALLS 0 — At Prospect, Prospect ran its overall record to 7-0 and its Mountain Valley League mark to 5-0.
Halee Hedgpeth had nine kills for the Cougars, and Heather Lass notched 16 digs and 12 assists.
