Senior Megan Kapp tallied three goals and an assist to fuel South Medford's 4-0 victory over Crater in Southern Oregon Hybrid action at South Medford High on Tuesday.
Kapp cashed in on an assist from Montana Logue less than two minutes into the match, but South's offense then turned stagnant for much of the remainder of the half.
After some halftime adjustments, the Panthers (3-2-1, 1-1-1 SOH) burst out of the gates. Kapp scored on an Erin Riley assist in the opening minute of the second half. About two minutes later, Raney Brooks connected on a shot after collecting a pass from Kapp to put South ahead 3-0.
Kapp scored for a third time in the 55th minute against the Comets (0-5-1, 0-3).
"Credit to the girls for coming out fine in the second half," South Medford head coach Chris Hollewijn said. "Getting those couple of goals (early in the second half) opened up the game."
Desiree Lakin and Larissa Lakin each played strong at the center back and right back positions, respectively, while Sarah Kapple performed well at center midfield.
NORTH MEDFORD 3, GRANTS PASS 0 — At Grants Pass, Amanda Hisey scored two goals and assisted on another in North Medford's SOH victory.
Hisey scored in the eighth minute on a pass from Halley Folsom to make it 1-0 at halftime. GP had only one shot in the first half.
Hisey scored again in the 29th minute, assisted by Sydney Thomas. Hisey passed to Araceli Jimenez for a score in the 40th minute.
The Black Tornado is 4-2, 2-0 in SOH play.
ROSEBURG 2, SOUTH EUGENE 1 — At Eugene, Mahala North and Rochelle Long scored for Roseburg (3-3) in nonleague play.
Mecca Ray-Rouse had a goal for South Eugene (3-3-1).
KLAMATH UNION 6, PHOENIX 1 — At Talent, Amanda Skaff scored around the 60th minute for Phoenix in Skyline Conference play at Colver Field.
Klamath Union (3-0-2, 1-0 Skyline) led 5-0 at halftime against the Pirates (1-4, 0-1).
NORTH VALLEY 2, HENLEY 1 — At Merlin, Vanessa D'Arpino broke a scoreless tie in the 36th minute and her sister, Kerissa D'Arpino, added an insurance goal in the 60th minute to lead North Valley to the Skyline-opening victory.
Kasey Werner set up the first goal for the Knights (4-0-1, 1-0 Sky), while Courtney Durham had the assist on the second goal.
Henley's Brandi Ronco scored in the 64th minute for Henley (0-4, 0-1).
ST. MARY'S 6, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 — Sophomore forward Lilli Knudsen finished with four goals and owned a hat trick by the 18th minute for St. Mary's in Southern Cascade Hybrid action at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
Marybeth Barnum turned in a goal and two assists, Emily Elmore recorded a goal and Amber Moore, Rachel Raniele and McKenna Barnum added assists for the Crusaders (4-2-3, 2-0 SCH), who led 4-0 at halftime against Illinois Valley (3-3, 0-1).
CASCADE CHRISTIAN 9, ROGUE RIVER 0 — Alex Haug recorded a hat trick and Jillian Emard had two goals and an assist for Cascade Christian in SCH action at U.S. Cellular.
Katelyn Stephens, Lacey Reen and Katelyn Fitch also scored for the Challengers, who led 5-0 at halftime. Sophia Battiato, MaKenzie Hickman and Stephens each registered an assist.
Cascade Christian (6-1, 1-0 SCH) was the recipient of an own goal by Rogue River (0-4, 0-2) in the 73rd minute.
