ASHLAND — Electric motorcycle maker Brammo is gaining traction in its efforts to equip police forces with its green machines.

The police department in Fort Collins, Colo., issued a statement Wednesday saying it is testing Enertia Plus LE motorcycles in the town of 148,000 about 60 miles north of Denver.

"As we look to maximize fuel efficiency and green technology, it made sense to conduct a trial of Brammo's all-electric motorcycle," noted Capt. Jim Szakmeister, of the agency's patrol division.

Brammo's motorcycles are used by several international and domestic government fleets, including the Hong Kong Police Department and Ashland police.

Enertia Plus LE models are equipped with emergency lights and accessories, allowing Fort Collins police to use them in a variety of patrol, security and traffic-enforcement details.

The adoption of Brammo's electric motorcycles reduces costs, while maintaining safety, the company says. Brammo also works with police departments to collect feedback on the day-to-day performance of its motorcycles, which is incorporated into future motorcycle design.
