Mark Edward Hicks, 62, passed away September 21, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
Mark was born October 2, 1949, in Monroe, La., to the late Marrell E. Hicks and M. Helen Lewallen. Mark attended Ashland schools and graduated Ashland High School in 1968. He enlisted with the U.S. Navy in the summer of 1968. During his four years of service he received the National Defense Service medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal/Korea, Commendation USS Sargo (SSN-583), and Commendation (USS AFDL-11) with honorable discharge in 1974.
Along with Mark's love for his family, he shared a special love for all animals and a deep passion for helping the underprivileged homeless population.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, M. Helen Harbaugh and William Harbaugh, Ashland; brother, Michael Hicks, Medford; sisters, Connie Acosta, Phoenix and Cena Divine, Reno, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Williams Hicks.
