Jacksonville approves land swap with motorcycle association

JACKSONVILLE — The City Council Tuesday approved the sale of 380 acres in the upper portion of the city's watershed to the Motorcycle Riders Association. The association would transfer a 40-acre parcel adjacent to Forest Park to the city and pay $680,000 in exchange.

The council approved the transaction by a 5-1 margin with Councilwoman Donna Schatz casting the dissenting vote. The decision followed a 90-minute public hearing and deliberations by the council.

MRA officials will need to secure a grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's ATV Grant Fund or other sources to complete the deal.

Forest Park has been developed by the city in the lower watershed over the last six years. The 40-acre parcel includes improved parking. The MRA already owns land next to the 380-acre parcel.
