BEND — South Medford senior Carmen Mejia placed fifth out of 73 runners in the 5,000-meter Invite race during the 25-school Oxford Classic at Drake Park on Friday.
The varsity races consisted of invitational and elite divisions.
Mejia's time was 19 minutes, 58.2 seconds.
For Phoenix, Nevina De Luca was ninth overall in the 5,000 elite run with a time of 19:32.3, while Cascade Christian's Stephanie Croy came in 10th (19:36.1).
On the boys side, Cascade Christian's Alex Cummings was 12th in the elite race (17:08.7), while teammate Tristan Akery came in 17th (17:49.8). Phoenix's Philip Todak finished 18th (17:51.2).
South Medford's Cody Larson was 18th in the invite (17:42.9).
Klamath Union's Alisha Luna won the elite girls race with a time of 18:40.
PHOENIX 2, MAZAMA 0 — At Klamath Falls, Jose Alegria and Lupe Flores each netted goals to help lift Phoenix to its fourth straight win in Skyline Conference action.
Alegria scored from 20 yards out on an assist from Johnny Esqueda in the 30th minute. In the 78th minute, Flores connected on a shot from 12 yards away after accepting a pass from Eli Espana.
Goalkeeper Hector Rocha recorded the shutout for the Pirates (5-1-1, 4-0 Skyline), who outshot Mazama 14-4 and had five more corner kicks than the Vikings (5-2-1, 2-2).
GLIDE 2, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1 — It's been a rough stretch for Cascade Christian, which suffered its fourth injury and second District 4 loss this week.
Glide's Caroline Brown broke a 1-all tie in the 72nd minute to secure the victory at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
The winning goal came about 12 minutes after Challengers midfielder Maddy Hogan went down with a dislocated knee. Three Cascade Christian players were hurt during their contest with St. Mary's on Tuesday.
Katelyn Stephens tallied the Challengers' lone goal, knotting the score at 1-all five minutes into the second half. The Challengers (6-1-3, 1-2 Dist. 4) outshot the Wildcats, 19-6 and hit the crossbar four times.
PROSPECT 3, NORTH LAKE 0 — At Prospect, Prospect beat North Lake 25-17, 25-11, 25-17 for its third straight Mountain Valley League triumph.
Taylor Bernhardt recorded 12 blocks, seven kills and five aces and Heather Lass was 20-for-21 serving with seven aces and 28 assists for the Cougars (11-3, 8-1 MVL).
Alee Pinkerton added six aces against North Lake (2-6, 2-6 MVL).
HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 3, BUTTE FALLS 0 — At Klamath Falls, Hosanna Christian won the Mountain Valley League match, 25-11, 25-10, 25-18.
Carly Bigby had 14 assists, eight kills and five aces for the Lions, while Emma Thompson added 19 kills and four aces and Paige Quinowski six kills.
ASHLAND 18, NORTH EUGENE 7 — At Eugene, Jericho Walker-Roberts had four goals and one steal and Hoku Eggertsen recorded three goals, three steals and one assist for Ashland.
Cole Harding turned in three goals and four steals, Tristan Gavin three goals, two assists and two steals, Lewy Kurazh three goals and two assists and Alex Sukles two goals, two assists and one steal.
Goalkeepers Vincent Wright registered five blocks and Ethan Croyle four blocks.
ASHLAND 13, NORTH EUGENE 3 — At Eugene, Maddy Longshore contributed four goals and one assist and Emma Frantz had three goals for Ashland.
Grace Crary recorded two goals, two steals and one assist and Aubrie Georgevitch offered up one goal and one steal. Goalkeepers Lili Wurfl registered eight blocks and Kaya Boehm six blocks for the Grizzlies.
