Spartans wrap up two-match sweep

The Southern Oregon Spartans defeated the Seattle Totems 5-2 to sweep the two-match series in Western States Hockey League action at The RRRink on Saturday.

Southern Oregon's Robert Donovan scored on an assist from Ryan Devine at the 6:59 mark in the first period. A goal by Seattle's Marcus Triezenberg tied the match before Pete Jorgensen scored on a pass from Nick DeSimone and Dan Doyle knocked in a powerplay goal using passes from Nick Stirmel and Connor Quinn in the second period.

Petr Novak cut into the Spartans' lead a couple minutes later.

Tim Talty's goal on a Luke Morin assist at 4:18 in the third period gave Southern Oregon its 4-2 edge. Talty later scored during a power play.

Goalkeeper Sean Buckley made 28 saves for the Spartans, who outshot Seattle 42-30.

On Friday, Southern Oregon (3-1) beat the Totems (1-3) 4-3 in overtime in its home opener. The two teams split in a season-opening series last month.
