  • Duane E. Ver Bryck, 83, went to be with his Heavenly Father October 3, 2012. He went peacefully at his home with his beautiful wife of 62 years, Violet, and granddaughter, Marie Tinnin, who was by his side taking care of him.
Duane was born October 20, 1928, in Long Beach, Calif., to Benjamin Amiss Ver Bryck and Irene Winifred Potvin. As a young boy, Duane moved with his family to Applegate. Farming and logging became his way of life. No job was ever too much for Duane.
Duane and Violet Marie Hoyt were married in Baltimore, Md., July 21, 1950. Just after they were married, Duane shipped out overseas. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean conflict. He served in the Army between October 26, 1949 and October 25, 1953, where he achieved the rank of Cpl(T)2.
Once Duane returned home from the service he started a family. His family lived all over Southern Oregon. Duane did all his work in the timber industry. He would fell trees and pull them out to the landing, back when it was all done with horses. He also worked at Fir Ply in White City, Ore., and Elk Lumber, now known as Boise Cascade. At the time of his retirement in 1990, he was a Hyster mechanic at the Medford shop. He enjoyed working with the men at the mill.
Duane enjoyed gardening. Every year his garden was very beautiful and it fed lots of people; all he asked was that you pick it.
Duane has three surviving children, Clayton Ver Bryck Sr., Darla Prevost, and Mark Ver Bryck. Also surviving is Clayton's wife, Jennifer; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom live in Southern Oregon and were frequent visitors to Duane and Violet's home in Sams Valley, Ore. Duane also has a surviving brother, Harvey Walker, who lives in San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Delbert; two sisters, Evonne and Audrey; and a son, Duane Elliott.
He will be entombed at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. There will be a service Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. His son, Clay, will do the eulogy.
There will be a celebration of life at the Community of Christ Church, located at 2320 Siskiyou Blvd. in Medford, Ore., at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012. This will be a potluck.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you give a donation to the Southern Oregon Lions Sight/Hearing Center located at 228 N. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.
