GRANTS PASS — The Grants Pass volleyball team topped South Medford 26-24, 18-25, 25-17, 25-23 in Southern Oregon Hybrid action on Tuesday.
Claire Sporer paced the Panthers with 11 kills, while Molli Calhoun recorded 10 kills on just 18 swings.
Bree Polk turned in eight kills, Liz DeVaughn 43 assists and Grace Sporer 38 digs and four aces for South, which couldn't find its rhythm after a close first game and a victory in the second set.
"We thought that game (two) could kind of pick us up and send us on our way, and it just didn't happen," South Medford head coach Sarah Costa said.
The Panthers (5-9, 2-5 SOH) and Crater Comets (6-9, 2-5 SOH) are now tied for third place in the league standings, with Grants Pass (5-9, 2-4 SOH) in last place. The top three squads in the five-team SOH automatically qualify for the 32-team state bracket, while the other two squads must compete in state play-in games.
ROSEBURG 3, CRATER 0 — At Central Point, Roseburg remained unbeaten in the SOH at 6-0 with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-12 victory.
For Crater (6-9, 2-5 SOH), junior libero Baylee Ullom had nine digs and senior defensive specialist Maddie Layton notched eight. Sophomore setter Kelsey Strouse made 12 assists, and junior middle Megan Funderburk had five kills.
ASHLAND 3, NORTH MEDFORD 2 — Senior outside Shelby Minor had 13 kills and two aces to lead Ashland in a 25-22, 13-25, 12-25, 25-23, 15-13 win over North Medford in nonleague play.
Madeline Wallace had five kills, including the team's 14th point in the fifth and deciding set, and two blocks for the Grizzlies (7-5). Amanda Wurzell turned in 13 digs and Phoebe Challman added nine digs, three kills and two aces.
Freshman outside hitter Emily Carter recorded 18 kills and two aces and Emily Carlson added 12 kills and two blocks for North (8-7), which beat Ashland in five games on Sept. 13.
Elle Bixler had 11 kills and two blocks, Katy Carter nine kills, 11 digs and two aces and Ashley Smith 18 digs for the Black Tornado, which was hurt by 18 service errors.
PHOENIX 3, NORTH VALLEY 1 — At Phoenix, the Phoenix attack was on the mark in the 25-20, 25-19, 27-29, 25-18 Skyline victory.
Freshman outside Haleigh Wagman and junior middle Baylee Toney paced the Pirates' front line with 11 kills each. Toney added five blocks.
Phoenix (12-4, 5-1 Sky) received 20 digs from libero Bailey Tally and freshman setter Karlie Richardson distributed 20 assists.
North Valley fell to 3-10 and 1-5.
HIDDEN VALLEY 3, KLAMATH UNION 0 — At Murphy, Hidden Valley's Lacey Maynard had five kills and eight blocks and the Mustangs recorded 11 aces in a 25-18, 25-17, 25-16 win over Klamath Union in Skyline Conference play.
Ashley Hyde turned in three aces and two kills and McKenzie Cushman added 28 assists and three aces for Hidden Valley (8-4, 6-0 Sky).
Klamath Union dropped to 1-11 overall and 1-5 in league play.
ST. MARY'S 3, ROGUE RIVER 1 — Nina Console's all-around performance sparked host St. Mary's to a 26-24, 25-14, 16-25, 25-16 conference victory.
Console, a senior outside hitter, led the Crusaders (8-7, 4-1 SCH) with 13 kills and 18 digs.
St. Mary's received nine kills from middle Dakotah Rothfus. Setter Madeline Gregg dished out 29 assists and senior right side Hannah Graunke had seven aces.
LAKEVIEW 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 — At Lakeview, Lakeview rolled to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 victory in the SCH.
For the Cougars (0-11, 0-5 SCH), Alex LaFlamme had five kills and 16 blocks, Abby Miller notched 37 assists and Keyanna Augustadt recorded 17 assists.
CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, LOST RIVER 0 — Cascade Christian used hot serving to cruise past Lost River 25-8, 25-15, 25-16 in nonleague play.
Paige Bruce recorded seven aces on 14 attempts for the Challengers (13-5), who registered 20.
Karlee Britton and Trudy Burns each had seven kills and Elise Gardner added six kills.
PROSPECT 3, BUTTE FALLS 0 — At Butte Falls, Prospect missed only three serves en route to a 25-15, 25-8, 25-6 victory.
Halee Hedgpeth and Heather Lass were both 17 of 17 serving and combined for nine aces. Alee Pinkerton and Taylor Reynolds also were 100 percent from the service line for the Cougars (13-3, 10-1 MVL).
Lass, a senior setter and right-side hitter, added eight kills, and junior middle Taylor Bernhardt contributed eight kills and five blocks.
For Butte Falls (2-12, 1-10), senior setter Joli Hobbs had five digs and three kills and Brandi O'Keefe provided five digs and two aces.
