Car crash closes North Columbus Avenue

North Columbus Avenue is closed between Bryant and Fourth streets after a sport-utility vehicle broke off a power pole near the intersection of Locust Street and Columbus Avenue.

Medford police officer Craig Nichols said the driver of a southbound minivan was changing lanes on Columbus and didn't see a Nissan Murano in the next lane. The van forced the Nissan into a fence and power pole. The woman driving the Nissan was taken to a local hospital, he said.

The crash was reported at about 12:50 p.m.

Pacific Power crews have responded to remove and replace the broken utility pole. Officials estimated work could take about three hours.

A detour is in place for traffic on Columbus and police said two lanes could reopen by 2:30 p.m., once the broken pole is replaced.
