KLAMATH FALLS — The Southern Oregon volleyball team beat Oregon Tech 25-11, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23 on Wednesday night at Danny Miles Court.
Haley Kasler led SOU (14-9, 10-2 CCC) with 12 kills, while Mona Goudarzian added 10 in the win.
Renee Yomtob tallied 27 digs to pace the Raiders, and Caryn Westrick posted a double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs.
Kristen Walters finished with 12 kills for Oregon Tech.
The Raiders, who secured the season sweep with the victory, used a couple long streaks to pull away to an easy win in the opening set.
Oregon Tech bounced back in the second set after a slow start, as the Owls used a seven-point streak to turn an early 7-3 deficit into a 10-7 advantage. The Owls would go on to lead by as many as five points, but the Raiders came on late to look like they might claim a comeback victory. With OIT nursing a 22-17 lead, Jordan Crossley picked up a kill to begin a 6-1 SOU run that tied it up at 23. Jen Saltenberger's kill gave OIT the set-point advantage, and after SOU tied it up again at 24 the Owls scored the final two points to tie the match at one set apiece.
The third set remained close the whole way, with neither team leading by more than three until the very end. The fourth game continued the trend of the previous set, as the teams exchanged small streaks to remain close throughout until Southern Oregon edged OIT.
