The Central Point School District has hired a new superintendent.

Samantha Steele, who serves as the district's director of education, will take over for retiring superintendent Randy Gravon on July 1.

Steele has served as the education director since 2005. Over the past 23 years, she has been a high school assistant principal, an English teacher, grant writer, academic adviser and cross country coach, the district said in a news release.

She holds a master's degree in education and two bachelor's degrees, one in English and one in education from SOU.

With about 4,600 students and nearly 500 teachers and classified staff combined, Steele will oversee five elementary schools, two middle schools and Crater High School, which operates its three smaller schools on one campus.
